The manuscript includes unique personal interviews which feature some of the 20th and 21st century's most important cultural figures, including such luminaries (not to name-drop) as the legendary "Fats" Domino, Julia Child, Louis Armstrong, Tony Bennett, Andy Williams, Richard Simmons, Nat King Cole, Warren Beatty, Paul Newman, Tip O'Neill and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, just to name a few. As a worldwide traveler for 22 years, Dave gives the reader an intriguing look at his experiences as leader of the first tour groups allowed to visit both Russia and China, as well as many other captivating adventures to foreign lands. As host of the television show, Community Auditions (often referred to as the precursor to Star Search), he shares a few stories from that live telecast that are sure to entertain. It also includes chapters on politics, including a story on payola in the record industry, and his testimony before the U.S. Congress. In a chapter called Beantown and Beyond, he recalls a story about playing with the Boston Celtics and a $5 million contract offer by Red Auerbach. In addition, the book includes a chapter on Dave's Health Tips that former listeners continue to request. A chapter on Humor, includes a series of one liners for the would-be standup comic, or anyone who is just looking for a good laugh. A chapter named Words to Live By includes some humorous and helpful hints for life's challenges; a chapter entitled Star Spotters, and a chapter named Pearls of Wisdom, all written with that special Dave Maynard flair, prove to the reader, there really is humor in almost everything. The final chapter of this book ends with a poem written by a long time radio fan extolling the miracle of Dave Maynard's birth, that will bring the reader to a laugh-out-loud conclusion. All of these items are culled from actual broadcasts. Some of the photos in the book may seem fuzzy. Unfortunately, that is how we started. We felt it was worth it to include them anyway. Dave's big break in broadcasting started at a new station, WHIL, where he was fortunate enough to land his first big interview– with Louis Armstrong. To help you learn the flavor of Dave's personality, this book starts with Dave's college career where – just perhaps – he learned the ways of the world. |
